Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for information.
An important political figure said the attack rendered him without words and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
